As the nfl season is in full stride their has been some teams that had playoff and super bowl plans that have hit a speed bump and other teams that people had them picking high in the draft order…. Let’s start with teams that disappointed.
Kansas City Chiefs- For a team that is coming off back to back super bowl appearances and winning one of them, to be in last in their division and have the worst defence in the league…. You have to call them a disappointment. The offence can only do so much but when you can’t keep points off the board, your going to lose games.
Washington Football Team- After coming off a division title last year and making the playoffs to go 2-3 record, with wins over the Falcons and needing a offside call to go their way against the giants on a field goal kick, to having the 31st ranked defence with the like of Young, Sweat, Allen, Jackson, and Fuller to name a few players…. unacceptable.
Miami Dolphins- Another team that last year went on a run and almost made the playoffs with a 10-6 record to be a 1-4 record with the narrow victory coming against the patriots in week 1. The Dolphins offence and defence rank 31st and 30th respectively when having a young defence minded coach. Also it seems like the offence staff and head coach lack faith in Tua.
Indianapolis Colts- Yes, this team is coming off a heartbreaker of a lost in OT on Monday Night football against the Ravens but being up 22-6 going into the 4th quarter and only scoring 3 pts after that, you deserve to lose. In a division where the Jags are a rebuild in process and the Texas are a dumpster fire, I thought they be fighting for 1st places with the Titians but instead they are rocking a 1-4 record with the 21st ranked offence and 23rd ranked defence. They have great players on defence with Buckner and Leonard and some weapons on offence in Taylor and Pittman where they should not be bottom of the division.
San Francisco 49ers- Well what can you say bout them… they really dropped the ball and it begun in the offseason when they didn’t trade Jimmy G away and gave all starting reps to Trey Lance. Then they didn’t add any cornerback depth to an already depleted group. They had Super Bowl winning mentality with a questionable roster. The play calling has been brutal by Kyle Shanahan, someone that been one of the top offence minded coaches in the league. The defence has been good enough for a first year defence coordinator in DeMeco Ryans but again when your offence is constantly going 3 and out the defence gets tired and gives up plays.
Onto the teams that shocked the world and let’s start with the….. Cincinnati Bengals– A team that was picking 5th overall at the last year draft to being 2nd in the AFC North with 3-2 record. Coming off a heartbreak of a lost to the Greenbay Packers in OT where their kicker let them down, this team offence is ranked 18th but the defence is where the surprise is…. being ranked 7th in the league!! This team might have save Zac Taylor job for one more year.
Los Angeles Chargers- We all knew that the chargers could be good but no one saw a first head coach in Brandon Staley taking a team that was 7-9 to a 4-1 record leading the division. With big win coming over the Chiefs. Their offence is ranked 6th with Justine Herbert and Mike Williams leading the charge while their defence is ranked 12th with Joey Bosa and Derwin James.
Arizona Cardinals- The only team undefeated and a MVP candidate leading the charge in Kyler Murry. Kliff Kingsbury is doing such a good job that he’s a candidate for coach of the year. He has his team offence ranked 4th in the league and his defence ranked 6th in the league with the help of Vance Joseph.
Carolina Panther. A team that had growing pain in Matt Rhule first year as a head coach, they went out and made a trade for Sam Darnold and started 3-0 this season. Shocking the nfl world and the NFC south. Yes they have cool off a bit but the team is making noise in the NFC south and making it known that they aren’t going to roll over, which will earn themselves a wild card spot.
Dallas Cowboys- I know putting the Cowboys on this list is crazy but knowing that by adding one guy to this team has made them in to a power house and Super Bowl favourite is shocking. No, I’m not talking about Dak…. I’m talking bout Dan Quinn. He has his defence playing lights out while being ranked 14th. Making Trevon Diggs into a superstar and a candidate for defensive player of the year. The Cowboys finally have a defence that can help the 2nd ranked offence come playoff time.
